âÃÂÃÂHow do I love thee... âÃÂàWeddings require public voices âÃÂàspeeches and responses âÃÂàbut along with these people often want to have a poem read to mark their marriage in a personal way. Whether itâÃÂÃÂs a poem full of beauty or of humour, whether itâÃÂÃÂs by a modern poet or a poet from the past, it will be a means of finding the right words to celebrate a very special occasion. When attending friendsâÃÂàweddings âÃÂàand because sheâÃÂÃÂs an actress âÃÂàJulia Watson has often been asked to read a poem. In the same way, many people have asked her for ideas about what to choose. In this book, she has collected over ninety poems and readings for weddings. âÃÂÃÂStay near to me, stay true to me...âÃÂàAs fewer weddings are taking place in church, people are looking for new readings more appropriate for civil ceremonies. And even traditionalists might like to have something extra read at their wedding lunch or party. Julia Watson's inspiring book offers seventy poems and readings which celebrate love and union - and offer the prospect of a lifetime's shared happiness. As an actress, Julia often found herself asked to read at people's weddings or to give advice on suitable readings. Here she has created an indispensable source book for those planning their big day. From the Bible and the Buddha, through the classics of Shakespeare and Donne, to more modern offerings from e.e. cummings and Pablo Neruda, the collection offers something that speaks for everyone. 'Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediment...' 'How do I love thee. Let me count the ways...' 'i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)...' 'Take me, accept me, love me as I am...' People get married at different stages of their lives, and possibly more than once. For those wishing to personalise their ceremony, and brides and grooms who want to say something apart from "I do", there are shorter passages that could be worked into the vows ceremony. Julia Watson is an actress who has worked extensively in television (recently as Dr Baz in the episodes of Casualty currently on air), theatre (in London her work includes Danton's Death, Major Barbara, She Stoops to Conquer and Wild Honey at the National Theatre) and radio (as Adriana in Radio 3's Comedy of Errors and the Woman's Hour serial Not Me But Us.) In 2003 she received a Grammy nomination (Best Performance) for The Woman and the Hare with the Nash Ensemble. She is married to the poet David Harsent, and they live with their daughter in Barnes, south-west London. Julia is available to write pieces about choosing appropriate readings for weddings, changing expectations of ceremonies, and also give an actress's advice to those called on to perform the readings.
